The LAST LECTURE Series with Dr. Kim Stanley Oct 26th

The speaker is Dr. Kim Stanley, whose lecture is titled: “This is Not about Sex” But it is about pleasure. What is hedonism, and how can we all get involved? This tongue-in-cheek look at life from one of the planet’s most original thinkers will be sure to entertain as well as provoke discussion.

The LAST LECTURE Series If you had a soapbox one last time before you died, what would your last lecture be? That’s the question asked of seven McPherson citizens of diverse background and experience. Plan to attend the lectures at the McPherson Museum during the months of October through November and January through April. Whimsical, wistful, or profound, these lectures are sure to leave the listener thinking. The next lecture will be held on Monday, Oct. 26. The speaker is Dr. Kim Stanley, whose lecture is titled: “This is Not about Sex” But it is about pleasure. What is hedonism, and how can we all get involved?
This tongue-in-cheek look at life from one of the planet’s most original thinkers will be sure to entertain as well as provoke discussion. Kim Stanley is the chair of the Department of Modern Languages at McPherson College , where she teaches poetry, British Literature, and advanced expository writing. She received her M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. Johns College at Santa Fe and her Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas . She has won the Dean’s Teaching Award at the University of Texas , the Professor of the Year Award (twice) at McPherson, and the Public Scholar Award from the Kansas Humanities Council (KHC). She likes to help people talk about books, so she leads book discussions in classrooms, public libraries, and prisons, through the KHC’s TALK program, Stories at Work, PrimeTime Family Reading Time, and Read to Me (at Hutchinson Correctional Institution). She is currently a member of the KHC board.
